If you become interested in a particular farm, be sure to obtain the soil maps of the area.  If the farmer does not have a copy of his/her maps, contact the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) to get this information: http://soils.usda.gov/survey/printed_surveys/state.asp?state=Maine&abbr=ME
